The base unit for measuring length in the International System of Units is meter [m]. The current valid definition of meter is:
The meter is currently defined as the length of the path travelled by light in a vacuum in \(\frac{1}{299792458}\) of a second.
Since 1795 there were numerous definition of the meter. In following table the defintions of meter from 1795 to the current defintion from 1983 are given.
