In the imperial system there are so-called circular units that have been very rarely used, manly for wire sizes and then only as the ciruclar mil in the USA. The circular units represent the are of a disc of a diameter equal to the equivalent linear unit. A circular mil is the area of a disc one mil (0.001 [in]) in diameter, and hence equal to \(7.85398163398 \times 10^{-7} [\mathrm{in}^2]\) or \(5.067 \times 10^{-7} [\mathrm{m}^2]\). It should be noted that the circular units should not be confused with circular measure, which referes to the expression of angle in radians.
